Osborne Stables-Three Generations of Race Horse Training and Race Horse Care
Craddoxtown House Stables were built in the early 18th century by Colonel William Eustace. The Coloraddoxtonel had a passion for equestrian pursuits, so much so that he commissioned the construction at his Craddoxtown base,of a hunting lodge. His stables have been continuously utilised over the last three centuries by horsemen of their generations.
The late 1910’s saw the arrival of a new equine pursuit for Craddoxtown House Stables, in the form of J.W. Osborne, who commenced his near sixty year career as a professional racehorse trainer. Joe handled many top-class National Hunt winners throughout his tenure at Craddoxtown House including Ivy Green; Alice Baythorn; Alice Whitethorn. The Irish Grand National and a bounty of Cheltenham Festival wins rank among the high-lights of his successes
IN 1974 Joe’s son Paddy (P.D.) moved his string of race horses from the Curragh to Craddoxtown House to continue his very successful career as a horse trainer. That year he enjoyed his first Cheltenham festival success, when he saddled Brown Lad to win the Sun Alliance Novice Hurdle. Some of his other big race successes included the Powers Gold Cup (Glending) and the Irish Champion Hurdle, won by Deep Idol
In 2000 Robbie (R.J.) commenced his training career at Craddoxtown House Stables. Robbie trained Latino Magic to win The Meld and Ruby Stakes, and also saddled King Jock who gained victories including the Desmond Stakes; the Primo Carlo Vittadini (Milan); and the Abu Dhabi Double (U.A.E.). Joe Osborne, the Stables Manager, is a UCD Science graduate. After nearly 12 years working for an Irish bank in London and Dublin, he joined Robbie as Assistant Trainer.
in 2006. Joe is passionate about the care of horses and is determined to carry on the fine Osborne tradition of equine management for many years to come
